Eastie is only reachable from the rest of Boston by tunnel, bridge, or the Blue Line, and that separation shaped it — it stayed an immigrant port neighborhood long after other parts of the city gentrified, first Italian, now largely Salvadoran and Colombian.

It's changing fast now. New waterfront buildings are going up along the harbor with modern loading docks and elevators, while a few blocks inland the triple-deckers from a century ago haven't changed much at all.
